By 2030, the economic fabric of the Barcelona metropolitan region will devote at least 1.2% of the GDP to private spending on R&D
An economy that provides prosperity for all must have a diversified structure and a growing importance of innovation in all activities. The Barcelona metropolitan region is very well positioned in terms of research, but its transfer to the productive sphere must be improved. Boosting private spending on R&D is key to making a qualitative leap and ascending to among the most innovative regions in Europe.

This association aims to form a strategic alliance between public administrations, business organisations and trade unions to boost industrial competitiveness, promote job creation and improve social cohesion and sustainability in the metropolitan area.
The pact features 50 town councils, 11 business organisations, 2 trade unions, the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Barcelona, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, 6 county councils, 6 universities and institutions linked to economic development.
