PROJECT OBJECTIVES
- Connect Terminal T1 at Barcelona-El Prat Airport with the centre of Barcelona and the entire Local Trains Network of Catalonia.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project consists of the construction of a new railway platform from the subway under the C-31 to Terminal T1 of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The layout of both routes is in a straighter line than the current layout and will connect the two terminals, passing underneath the runways and ending underneath the new terminal, at the same point as L9.
A large part of the 4.5 km of the route will run through a tunnel measuring 2.8 km long, excavated using an EPB-type tunnel-boring machine.
The budget reduction proposed in mid-2010 led to postponement of the start of the works, although at that point they had already been awarded. Finally, the start of the works is planned to take place during 2015.
