The HOV-bus road on the C-58 motorway is a new 6.8-kilometre-long infrastructure designed to reinforce and increase the efficiency of public and private collective passenger transport on motorways at the connection between El Vallès Occidental and El Barcelonès.
Department of Territory and Sustainability, of the Catalan Transport Service
This HOV-bus road consists of two lanes located at the median of the C-58 and C-33 motorways. It is separated from these motorways all along its path, meaning that vehicles can only enter and exit the HOV-bus road at its ends (at the north end, by means of a road connection with the C-58 and by means of the ramps of the Ripollet interchange, and at the south end by means of a connection with a traffic signal at the avenue Avinguda Meridiana).
This infrastructure is designed for the exclusive ordinary use of public transport vehicles, high-occupancy vehicles (known as HOV in English or VAO, according to the Spanish acronym, which is envisaged for vehicles transporting three or more people), motorbikes, vehicles for people with reduced mobility and ecological vehicles, primarily. Its purpose is to facilitate the use of the motorway by these types of vehicles, affording the advantages of shorter travel times, increased reliability and economic savings.
