Highlights

The new infrastructure connects the four Catalan capital cities with the rest of Spain and hence contributes to regional structuring and social cohesion. Moreover, this line allows for the transport of both passengers and cargo, and therefore serves as a driving force for the logistics sector, as it enjoys all the advantages of the interoperability with the European network.

The high-speed train line between Barcelona and Figueres became operative, completing the Madrid - Barcelona – French border connection. Covering a total length of 804 km, this is one of the main lines of communication between Spain and the rest of Europe, as it is also an essential part of the Mediterranean Corridor.

The construction of the last section of the Barcelona-Figueres line, with a length of 131 km, entailed a total investment of more than €3.7 billion, in addition to the costs of the construction work at the Barcelona-Sants, Girona and Figueres-Vilafant stations.

The travel time between Barcelona and Figueres is 53 minutes; and the most widely used route, between Barcelona and Girona, is 37 minutes long, whilst the entire length of the line, between Madrid and Figueres, takes 4 hours and 8 minutes.
