On 8 April at 6:00 p.m., the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) will host a colloquium on access to housing, an issue that has become the main concern of the citizens of Catalonia according to the CEO's Barometer of Political Opinion.

The event, organized by Verificat and La Vanguardia, will put on the table the question "Are we facing a change of model?", at a time when rental prices have skyrocketed – 34.5% more in Barcelona in the last decade – while wages have fallen slightly.

The debate will feature the participation of several expert voices in housing:

  • Carme Arcarazo, spokesperson for the Tenants' Union.
  • Òscar Gorgues, manager of the Barcelona Chamber of Urban Property.
  • Luisa F. Pinto, referent of the housing mission in the Metropolitan Strategic Plan of Barcelona (PEMB).
  • Montserrat Pareja Eastaway, expert in housing studies and co-director of the Barcelona Chair in Housing Studies.

The colloquium will be moderated by Maite Gutiérrez, economics journalist at La Vanguardia, and will follow the format of Verified Debates, an initiative that seeks to guarantee a discussion based on contrasted data and free of misinformation. For this reason, all participants have previously shared with Verified the data and arguments that they will use during their intervention.

In addition, the event will be attended by representatives of the Territory and Housing Commission of the Parliament of Catalonia, ensuring that the debate can have a real impact on public policies.

This debate is part of the Verified Debates series, promoted by Verificat and La Vanguardia, with the support of the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF). Admission is free and open to the public.
