Highlights

The Government is encouraging the transfer of the knowledge from universities to companies with the Industrial Doctorates plan.

Project Leader

Antonio Huerta, Academic Director of the Industrial Doctorates Plan of the Catalan Government

The Industrial Doctorates Plan aims to contribute to the competitive edge and internationalisation of the industrial fabric of Catalonia, to retain talent and to place doctoral students in R & D projects at companies.

In other words, this is an excellent opportunity for everyone involved. For companies, it enables the recruitment of highly qualified staff with experience in innovative environments. For the university, this initiative reinforces the transfer of knowledge and affords the university close-up insight to the current needs of the different sectors and society. Finally, for the students, it is an opportunity to train in a collaborative university-company environment.

The essential constituent of the plan is a strategic research project of a company that is being carried out in collaboration with a university. The student pursuing the doctorate will then develop his/her training based on the project and end up presenting a doctoral dissertation. The definition and supervision, as well as the selection of the most appropriate profiles, will be carried out jointly by the company and the university. The Catalan Government will provide funding to both the company and the university, for the development and follow-up of the project.
